(x-5)(x+9) = x^2 +4x
highest power of the polynomial is called degree

therefore degree of (x-5)(x+9) is 2

(x-5) (x+9) = x^2+9x-5x-45
= x^2+4x-45

Degree is the highest power .
So , 2 is the degree of this polynomial
