Lateral surface area means curved surface area

Total surface area means curved surface area + surface area of the bottom and top.

For example take a powder tin. It is in the shape of a cylinder

Lateral surface area = The area of the portion on which brand name and design are

printed.

The total surface area = The lateral surface area + area of two circles {top and bottom]

Hope you guys get it.
understand it in term of cube as well.

TOTAL SURFACE AREA:-

The surface area of a cube is the sum of the area of each face. Since there are 6 faces on a cube, the surface area of the entire cube is .

The total surface area (TSA) of a cube is the sum of the areas of its six faces. Consider the cubeshown. Each of its six faces is a square with side length l.

LATERAL SURFACE AREA:-

The lateral surface of an object is thearea of all the sides of the object, excluding the area of its base and top. For a cube, the lateral surface area would be the area of four sides. Consider theedge of the cube as a. The area of one square face A face = a * a = a^2.

In the case of a cube, the lateral surface areaconsists of the area of four of the cube's sides added together, or 4 times the area of one of the cube's sides. Thus, the lateral surface area of a cube can be found using the formula 4s^2, where s is the side length of the cube.
