Answer:

viii) the unit digit is 8

ix) the unit digit is 9

Step-by-step explanation:

viii) 8^2009

the unit place is 8

as we now that

  • (....8)^4k→ unit digit is 6
  • (....8)^4k+1→ unit digit is 8
  • (....8)^4k+2→ unit digit is 4
  • (....8)^4k+3→ unit digit is 2

where (...8) is any number with 8 as it's unit place...and k is constant....

In this case, 8^2009 can be written as 8^2008+1= 8^4x502+1

so, 8^4x502+1 is in the form(....8)^4k+1

therefore, the unit digit will be 8

ix) 9^1999

the unit place is 9

as we know that,

  • (....9)^odd power→ unit digit is 9
  • (....9)^even power→ unit digit is 1

in this case, 9^1999

1999 is odd....

so, the unit digit will be 9

since, (....9)^odd power→ unit digit is 9...
