Step-by-step explanation:

2(l+b)=28

l+b =14

l =14-b

lb =40

l =40/b

Therefore

14-b =40/b

14b-b²=40

b²-14b+40=0

b²-4b-10b+40=0

b(b-4)-10(b-4)=0

b-4=0, b=4 and b-10=0, b=10

If b=4,

l=14b=14-4=10

=40/4=10

Therefore b=4 and l=10
