Let us assume the axes X and Y to be perpendicular. Then the shortest distance d between the to points A and B with the coordinates of x1 y1 and x2 y2 on an Euclidian plane would be given by the formula : d= +√[(x1-x2)2 + (y1-y2)2 .
If X1 is equal to sin theta-cos theta and y1 is equal to 0 AND X2 is equal to 0 and y2 is equal to sin theta+ cos theta, then substituting the values you get the distance.
