the distance is

 = \sqrt{(2 + 1) {}^{2} + ( - 2 - 2) {}^{2} } \\ = \sqrt{3 {}^{2} + 4 {}^{2} } \\ = \sqrt{25} \\ = 5 \: \: unit

Distance between two points (x1,y1) ,(x2,y2)
=√(x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2
Here ,
√(-1-2)^2 + (2+2)^2
=√(-3)^2 + (4)^2
=√9+16
=√25
=5
