distance \: formula \:  =  \:   \sqrt{ {(x1 - x2)}^{2} }   +  {(y1 - y2)}^{2}

Given :

x1 = a

x2 = -a

y1 = b

y2 = -b

=> √[ a - (-a) ]² + [ b - (-b) ]

=> √ (a +a)² + (b + b)²

=> √ ( 2a)² + ( 2b)²

=> √ 4a² + 4b²

=> √ 4 (a² + b²)

= 2√ (a² + b²)

Hope it helps.
