We know that,

Distance between two points

 =  \sqrt{(x2 - x1) {}^{2}   +  (y2 - y1) {}^{2} }

Given:-

A(-6,-4)

x1=-6,y1=-4

B(9,-12)

x2=9,y2=-12

Hence,

 \sqrt{((  9) - ( - 6)) {}^{2}   +((  - 12) - ( - 4)) {}^{2} }  \\ =   \sqrt{ {15}^{2} + ( - 8) {}^{2}  }  \\  =   \sqrt{225 - 64}  \\  =  \sqrt{161} \: units  \\
