Answer:

AB² = (x1 - x2)² + (y1 - y2)²

(5)² = ( 1 - x )² + ( 1 - 1 )²

25 = 1 - 2x + x²

x² - 2x - 24 = 0

x² - (6 - 4 )x - 24 = 0

x² - 6x + 4x - 24 = 0

x (x - 6) + 4 (x - 6) = 0

(x + 4) (x - 6) = 0

Therefore x = -4 or x = 6

Distance can't be negative.

So x = 6

Answer:

P=(x ,y 1 )=(x,−1)

Q=(x

2 ,y 2 )=(3,2)

25=(3−x)

2 +(2+1) 2

25=(9+x 2 −6x+9)

x 2 −6x−7=0

x 2 −7x+x−7=0

x(x−7)+1(x−7)=0

x=−1,7
