Let the parallel chords be AB = 16 cm and CD = 12 cm in the circle of radius R = 10 cm. Let the midpoint of AB be P, that of CD, Q and the center be O.

OP = [10^2–8^2]^0.5 = 6 cm

OQ = [10^2–6^2]^0.5 = 8 cm

Hence PQ = 6+8 = 14 cm
