Let first co-ordinates be A(-5,7)  x1=-5,y1=7

and B(-1,3)  x2=-1,y2=3

Now;

Apply Distance formula:

Distance=Root{(x1-x2)^2+(y1-y2)^2}

             =Root{(-5-(-1))^2+(7-3)^2}

             =Root{(-5+1)^2+(4)^2}

             =Root{(-4}^2+(4)^2}

             =Root{16+16}

             =Root{32}

             =4 √ 2 units.
