Distance= √(x2-x1)² + (y2-y1)²
10 = √ (1-x)² + (15-7)²
10 =√ (1+x²-2x) + (8)²
10 = √ x²-2x +64+1
Squaring both sides, we get
100 = x²-2x+65
x²-2x+65-100 =0
x²-2x-35 = 0
x²-7x+5x-35 = 0
x(x-7) + 5(x-7) =0
(x+5) (x-7) =0
So, x+5=0
x=-5
Or, x-7=0
x =7
