Answer  : given that,

Frequency f = 500 mhz

We know that, the directivity of the half wave dipole antenna is 1.64

The effective area of an antenna is given by

A_{e} = \dfrac{\lambda^{2}}{4\pi}D

Now, the wave length is

\lambda =\dfrac{c}{f}

\lambda =\dfrac{3\times10^{8}}{500\times10^{6}}

\lambda = 0.6 m

Now, the effective area

A_{e} = \dfrac{\lambda^{2}}{4\pi}D

put the value in the formula

A_{e} = \dfrac{(0.6)^{2}}{4\pi }\times1.64

A_{e} = 0.047\ m^{2}

Hence, the effective area of the half wave dipole antenna is 0.047^{2}
