Reciprocal of equivalent resistance of parallel connection = sum of reciprocal of individual resistance.

1/R(p)  = 1/20  + 1/30

⇒ 1/R(p) =  (3+2)/60

⇒ R(p) = 60/5

⇒ R(p) = 12 ohm
