Heya!!

General Equation of line making intercept a and b on co-ordinate axis is

x/a + y/b = 1

Exp:-

x = 4 and y = 1 Given

a + b = 9 Given

a = 9 - b

=> 4/9 - b + 1 / b = 1

=> 4b + 9 - b = b ( 9 - b )

=> 3b + 9 = 9b - b²

=> b² - 6b + 9 = 0

=> b² - 3b - 3b + 9 = 0

=> b ( b - 3 ) -3 ( b - 3 ) = 0

=> b = 3

Now, put value of b in this equation

a + b = 9 we get a = 6

So, equation of line passing through points ( 4,1 ) and sum of whose intercepts is 9 is

x/6 + y/3 = 1

3x + 6y = 18
