Consider a line through (x1,y1)=(0,c) and (x2,y2)=(2c,0). The slope of the line is given by the formula:

m=y2−y1x2−x1=0−c2c−0=−c2c=−12

A line through a point (x0,y0) with slope m can be described in point slope form as:

y−y0=m(x−x0)

So in our example, with (x0,y0)=(2,3) and m=−12 we have:

y−3=−12(x−2)  point slope form

Multiplying out the right hand side, this becomes:

y−3=−1
