Find the equation of the line parallel to line 3x+2y=8 and passing through the point (0,1).

3x  +  2y  - 8  = 0 \\ slope =  -  \frac{a}{b} =  -  \frac{3}{2 }   \\ m =  -  \frac{3}{2} \\  \\ y - y1 = m(x - x1) \\ y - 0 =  -  \frac{3}{2}  (x - 1) \\ y =  -  \frac{3}{2}(x - 1) \\ 2y =  - 3x - 3 \\ 3x + 2y + 3 = 0

3x + 2y = 8

2y = −3x + 8

or, y = -3x/2 + 8/2

Slope of given line = -3/2

Since the required line is parallel to given straight line.

∴ Slope of required line (m) = -3/2
