Find the equation of the line passing through the intersection of the lines 3x+2y=7 and x-y+1=0 and
(i) parallel to 2x+y=0
(ii) perpendicular to the x- axis

Equation of line through 3 x + 2 y = 7 and x - y + 1 = 0

Multiply x - y + 1 = 0 with 3

= 3 x - 3 y + 3 = 0

Subtract from 3 x + 2 y = 7

= - 3 y - 2 y = - 10

= - 5 y = - 10

= y = 2

x - y + 1 = 0

= x - 2 + 1 = 0

= x = 1

(i) Parallel to 2 x + y = 0

y = - 2 x

m = - 2

Hence equation = y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )

= y - 2 = - 2 ( x - 1 )

= y - 2 = - 2 x + 2

= 2 x + y = 4

(ii) Perpendicular to x - axis .

Slope = tan 0

= 0

Hence y - y1 = 0

= y - 2 = 0

= y = 2
