EXPLANATION.

Equation of the line (2, 8).

Parallel to the line : y = 3x + 7.

As we know that,

Slope of a parallel line : m = - a/b.

We can write equation as,

⇒ 3x - y + 7 = 0.

Slope = m = - (3)/(-1) = 3.

Equation of line.

⇒ (y - y₁) = m(x - x₁).

Put the values in the equation, we get.

⇒ (y - 8) = 3(x - 2).

⇒ y - 8 = 3x - 6.

⇒ 3x - 6 - y + 8 = 0.

⇒ 3x - y + 2 = 0.

Equation of line : 3x - y + 2.

MORE INFORMATION.

Length of perpendicular from a point on a line.

The length of perpendicular from P(x₁, y₁) on ax + by + c = 0 is,

⇒ |ax₁ + by₁ + c/√a² + b²|.
