Given,

two straight lines passing through the origin and make equal angles with the coordinates axes.

To Find,

the equation of the two straight lines passing through the origin and making equal angles with the coordinate axes.

Solution,

case 1: one of the straight lines makes an angle of 45° with the positive side of the x-axis

so the slope of the line= tan45° =1 and as it passes through the origin the value of c will be zero

the equation of the line is y-0 = 1(x-0)

∴ y = x

case 2: second straight line makes an angle of 135° with the positive side of the x-axis

so the slope of the line =

tan135° = tan( 180°-45°)

              = -tan(45°) = -1

the equation of the line is y-0 = 1(x-0)

∴ y = -x

Hence the equations are y = x , y = -x
