Question 1

Leave the fraction in ratio form,

3 : 5 = Numerator : 30

You can see that to change the denominator from 5 to 30, you have to multiply 5 by 6 so the numerator of the fraction you are asked to find also has to be multiplied by 6.

3 : 5 = (3 × 6) : 30

3 : 5 = 18 : 30

Change 18 : 30 into fraction form to get \frac{18}{30} .

Question 2

Do the same as in question 1 (except that you fill in the space of the numerator since it is the number given).

3 : 5 = 24 : Denominator

To get 24, 3 is multiplied by 8 therefore 5 is also multiplied by 8 to get the denominator.

3 : 5 = 24 : (5 × 8)

3 : 5 = 24 : 40

Hence the equivalent fraction is \frac{24}{40} .
