Answer:

50

Explanation:

Given Find the equivalent mass of metal ,if 10g of its carbonate gives 5.6 of of its oxide on thermal decomposition

Weight of carbonate = 10 gm

Weight of metal oxide = 5.6 gm

Weight of CO2 formed = 4.4 gm

Molecular mass of CO2 = 44

We know that equivalent mass of CO2 = 44/2 = 22

So the carbonate that releases 22 gm of carbonate is the equivalent mass of metal carbonate.

So 4.4 gm of CO2 is released from 10 gm of metal carbonate.

Now 22 gm of CO2 will be released from

10 x 22 / 4.4 = 50 gm of metal carbonate.

So equivalent mass of metal carbonate is 50

The metal will be calcium.
