Explanation:

First draw a circuit and connect it with A and B and the battery's positive terminal toward A and negative towards B. So the current moves from A to B.

R1 is in series with the total resistance given by R2,R3 and R4 as current will not divide.

R2 is in parallel with the total resistance given by R3 and R4

R3 is in parallel with R4 as the current will divide.

So, 1/Rp1=1/1+1/5

1/Rp1= 5+1/5 (Taking LCM)

1/Rp1=6/5

Rp1=5/6 (Taking Reciprocals)

Now, 1/Rp= 1/10+6/5

1/Rp=1+12/10

1/Rp = 13/10

Rp= 10/13

So, Total Resistance= R1 + Rp

=1/10+13/10

=14/10 = 1.4 Ohms
