(i) Past tense would be used when we use " As soon as"

(ii) We never say one of the student , because by student we mean , only one student is there . So one of the student does not make sense. Also considering the rules of subject - verb agreement , that it cannot be one of the student , it should be students .

(iii) We have already mentioned the noun "classroom" once in our first sentence , that is separated from the next sentence .  mentioning a particular noun ( or word) , the article the must be used instead of the article a .
