Question.

➝find the factors of \sf\green{y^2-6y +5}

Solution.

\sf\green{ y^2 - 6y + 5= 0}

\sf\green{ y^2 -5y -y + 5= 0}

\sf\green{ y ( y - 5 ) - 1 ( y - 5 )= 0}

\sf\green{ ( y - 5 ) ( y - 1 ) = 0}

so, y = \sf\red{ 5 ,or1}are the factors of this equation.

Question :

Find the factors of: y2 + 5 - 6y.

Method used :

Middle term splitting

Solution :

y2 + 5 - 6y.

y²-6y+5

So , 5×1=5

And 5+1=6

y²-(5+1)y+5

now opening bracket

y²-5y-y+5

y(y-5)-1(y-5)

(y-5)(y-1)

So , y= 5 or 1

Hence , factors are (y-5) and (y-1)
