Answer:

Let 4a+b=18

b=18–4a…..(I)

Putting I in a+4b=-3

Therefore a+4(18–4a)=-3

a+72–16a=-3

-15a=-75

a=5

Putting a=5 in I we get

b=18–4*5

b=18–20

b=-2

Putting the value of a and b in 4a+b=18

4*5+(-2)=18

20–2=18

18=18
