Say the metal is M and halogen X
The formula is MX3
As halogens have valency -1 and the given metal will have valency +3 because the first, second and third ionisation enthalpies are increasing gradually but the difference between third and fourth enthalpy is very high, which shows that metal achieves noble gas configuration when 3 electrons have been removed from it

Answer:

MX3

Explanation:

the IE should generally increase. but 100x is a drastic change. therefore 3+ state is the stable than 4+ state. as valence of halogen is 1. the formula will be MX3.
