SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The fourth term of an A.P 4 , 9 , 14 . . . .

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

If in an arithmetic progression

First term = a

Common difference = d

Then nth term of the AP

= a + ( n - 1 )d

EVALUATION

Here the given arithmetic progression is

4 , 9 , 14 . . . .

First term = a = 4

Common Difference = d = 9 - 4 = 5

Hence the required fourth term

= a₄

= a + 3d

= 4 + ( 3 × 5 )

= 4 + 15

= 19

Fourth can be calculated as below

The required fourth term

= Third term + Common Difference

= 14 + 5

= 19
