Given:

Point A on the line segment = (5, -2)

Point B on the line segment= (3, -8)

To find:

Gradient of the line segment.

Solution:

The gradient of a line segment is the slope of the line segment which is a measure of the steepness of the line:

Gradient = change in y/ change in x = y₂-y₁/ x₂-x₁

= -2-(-8)/ 5-3

=8-2/5-3

=6/2 = 3

Therefore the gradient of the line segment is 3.
