As we know,
the greatest no. of 3-digits = 999
=> We need to find such a perfect square no. which is the closest perfect square no. to 999.

Let's try it out:
i. Let's have the square of 30 ----
30^2 = 900. ( Closer to 999)

ii Square of 32 ----
32^2 = 1024 (1024 > 999; it exceeds 999 and hence, it's not the eligible answer.)

iii Square of 31 ---
31^2 = 961 (Closest to 999)

Therefore, the required answer would be 961 which is the greatest 3-digit perfect square number.
