Find the greatest number which divides 81 and 292 leaving a remainder 3 in each case

292–3 = 289

Factors of

78 = 2x3x13

289 = 17X17

The HCF of 78 and 289 is 1.

81/1 = 81 and 292/2= 292.

But dividing a number by 1 does not leave a

remainder. So there is no such number
