The greatest (positive whole) number with six digits is 999, 999.

The square root of 999,999 is approximately 999.9994. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect square.

Rounding down from 999.9994, we obtain 999.

The square of 999 is 998,001, the latter being the greatest number of 6 digits which is a perfect square.

We know the greatest number of 6 digits is 999999.

 Then solving through division method,

We get quotient as 999.99 So it is not a perfect square.

But if we consider it to be as (1000-1)² which will be equal to 999².

   (1000 - 1)² = 999² = 998001

.·.The greatest 6 digit number which is a perfect square is 998001.
