i=0.5A, R=200 ohms, t= 300sec,
H=i2Rt
=0.25×200×300
=15000 J

15kJ heat will be produced.

Given : A current of 0.5A is passed through a coil of resistence 200ohm for 5mins.

To find : The amount of produced heat.

Solution :

We can simply solve this numerical problem by using following process. (our goal is to calculate the produced heat)

Here, we will use the following mathematical formula.

H = RT

Where,

  • H = Produced heat in Joules
  • I = Current in Amperes
  • R = Resistance in Ohms
  • T = Time in Seconds

In this case,

  • H = ? (unknown quantity)
  • I = 0.5A
  • R = 200 ohms
  • T = 5 mins = (5×60) seconds = 300 seconds

(As, 1 minute = 60 seconds)

By, putting the available data, in the above mentioned mathematical formula, we get :

H = (0.5)² × 200 × 5

H = 15000 J = (15000÷1000) kJ = 15 kJ

(This will be considered as the final result.)

Hence, 15kJ heat will be produced.
