let the triangle be ABC, such that AB is hypotenuse,BC and AC are two perpendicular sides..

Now, applying Pythagoras theorem,

AC²=AB²+BC²

AC²=(√2)² + (√1)²

AC²= 2 + 1

AC² = 3

AC = √3 .
