Given :

  • Equation of a line : 3x-7y= 1

To find :

  • x and y intercepts made by the line on the coordinate axes.

Solution :

To find x intercept made by the line on the coordinate axes put y = 0 in the equation 3x-7y= 1

 \implies \: 3x - 7(0) = 1

\implies \: 3x - 0 = 1

\implies \: 3x  = 1

\implies \: x =  \dfrac{1}{3}

Therefore x intercept = 1/3

To find y intercept made by the line on the coordinate axes put x = 0 in the equation 3x-7y= 1

\implies \: 3(0) - 7y = 1

\implies \: 0- 7y = 1

\implies \: 7y =  - 1

\implies \: y =   \dfrac{ - 1}{7}

Therefore y intercept = -1/7
