1. y = -5x - 17

Find y-intercept:

y = mx + c where c is the y-intercept

y = -5x - 17

⇒ y intercept = -17

⇒ coordinate of y-intercept = (0, -17)

Find x-intercept:

x intercept occurs when y = 0

y = -5x - 17

-5x - 17 = 0

5x = -17

x = -17/5

⇒ coordinate of x-intercept = (-17/5, 0)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.  y = x + 1

Find y-intercept:

y = mx + c where c is the y-intercept

y =  x + 1

⇒ y intercept = 1

⇒ coordinate of y-intercept = (0, 1)

Find x-intercept:

x intercept occurs when y = 0

y = x + 1

0 = x + 1

x = -1

⇒ coordinate of x-intercept = (-1, 0)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.  y = −2x − 5

Find y-intercept:

y = mx + c where c is the y-intercept

y = −2x − 5

⇒ y intercept = -5

⇒ coordinate of y-intercept = (0, -5)

Find x-intercept:

x intercept occurs when y = 0

y = −2x − 5

0 = −2x − 5

2x = -5

x = -5/2

⇒ coordinate of x-intercept = (-5/2, 0)
