Heya

______________________________

At a time a line can't be // to both the co-ordinates axis

Case 1 // to x-axis

Equation of line // to x-axis and passing through the point ( 2,3 ) is

y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )

Where m = Tan ( 0 ) x1 = 2 and y1 = 3

=>

y - 3 = 0

y = 3

Case2

// to the y-axis

Equation of a line passing through the point ( 2, 3 ) and // to the y-axis is

y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )

m = Tan ( 90 ) = 1/0

=>

y - 3 = 1/0( x - 2 )

=>

x - 2 = 0

=>

x = 2

joint Equation is

( x - 2 ) × ( y - 3 ) = 0

=>

xy -3x - 2y + 6 = 0

gourimisale11: this isn't a joint equation
gourimisale11: ok

Whenever we find a question related to pair of straight line most of us jump straight to the general equation representing the pair of straight line. But if you observe the question you may find that many questions are just based on your basic understanding.

So here in this question lets see what it is saying, it says that both the lines passes through (2,3). And are parallel to x and y axis respectively. So that means one line have slope 0 and one will have slope infinity, or in simple words one line will be vertical and one will be horizontal.

Now wait and just think, how many lines there may be passing through a particular point and are vertical and horizontal. Only 2 of them one is x - 2=0 and one is y-3=0

So the joint equation will be (x-2)(y-3) = 0

xy -3x -2y +6=0

Here is our answer.

Tip: Always observe the question before taking any approach :)
