Let x be the number that divides 226 and 311 leaving remainder of 5.

As per the question, if the number are divided,

226 – 5 = 221

311 – 5 = 306

Now, factorise both the number

221 = 17 * 13

306 = 17 * 3 * 3 * 2

HCF = 17

Hence, the answer is 17

\huge Hello\huge friends,

226 - 5 = 221

311 - 5 = 306

221 = 17*13

306 = 17*3*3*2

H.C.F = 17
