Given :  Two numbers 630  & 940  .

To find :  Largest number Which on dividing 630 & 940  leaves remainder  6 & 4 respectively

Solution:

Let say Largest number = N

630  = AN   + 6   => AN  = 624

940  = BN  + 4    => BN =  936

=> N is the HCF of  624  & 936

624 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 13

936 = 2 * 2 * 2  * 3 * 3 * 13

HCF = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 13     = 312

312 is the Largest number

Verification

630  = 312 * 2  +  6

940  = 312 * 3  +  4

312 is the Largest number   Which on dividing 630 & 940  leaves remainder  6 & 4respectively
