Given:

A cloth having length 2.75 m and 75 cm

To find:

The largest size of the handkerchief which can be cut from the given cloth

Solution:

The length of the cloth = 2.75 m = 2.75 × 100 = 275 cm

The breadth of the cloth = 75 cm

(1). We have to cut the largest possible handkerchief from the given cloth and to find the size of that handkerchief, we will find the HCF of 275 cm and 75 cm.

(2). We will calculate the HCF by the prime factorisation method:

Factors:

275 = 5 × 5 × 11

75 = 3 × 5 × 5

HCF :

∴ HCF of 275 & 75 = 5 × 5 = 25 cm

Thus, the largest size of the handkerchief is → 25 cm × 25 cm.
