Given: Tank Diameter = 4.2 m

Radius =

\frac{4.2}{2}=2.1

Height of the tank = 4.5 m

Formula: Curved surface area of the cylinder = 2πrh = 2 x π x 2.1 x 4.5

= 2\times \frac{22}{7}\times 2.1\times 4.5= 59.4 m²

Steel was actually used =

\frac{1}{12}

x 59.4 ⇒ 4.95

Therefore, steel actually use was wasted in making the tank = 59.4 - 4.95 = 54.45 m.
