Answer:

(a)

d = 4.2

r = 4.2/2 =2.1 m

h = 4.5 m

lateral surface area of cylinder petrol tank = 2πrh

                                                                       = 2 * 22/7 * 2.1 * 4.5

                                                                       = 59.4 m^2

(b)

total surface area of the closed cylindrical petrol storage tank

= 2πr (r + h)

=2 x 22/7 x 2.1x (4.5m + 2.1m)

= 87.12 m^2

Area of steel wasted in making the tank

= (1 / 10) x Total surface area

= (1 / 10) x 87.12 m^2

= 8.712m^2

Actual area of the steel used for making the tank.

= Total surface of the tank + Area of steel  wasted in making the tank

= 87.12 m^2 + 8.712 m^2

=95.832 m^2
