while doing LCM through prime factorisation, we should do only through prime factors.
Prime factors are prime numbers which are having only two factors - 1 and the number itself.
For example - 2, 3, 5, 7 and 11 etc.
Finding LCM of 16, 28 and 40 through Prime Factorisation -
16 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2
28 = 2 x 2 x 7
40 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5
LCM of 16, 28 and 40 -
= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 x 7 = 560.
