As we know that,

Perimeter of triangle is the sum of length of all the sides of triangle.

length of unequal side = 6 cm

So, let the equal side be x cm

So, we can say that,

$x+x+6=40\\=>2x +6=40\\=>2x = 40-6\\=>2x = 34\\=>x = \frac{34}{2} = 17\:cm$

Hence, value of equal side will be 17 cm.
