length of altitude = sqrt(3)/2 X length of side.                    sqrt stands for "square root of"
= sqrt(3)/2 X 3 X sqrt(3)
=4.5

Length of the altitude of an equilateral triangle of side "a" units =  \frac{ \sqrt{3}a}{2}

Length of the altitude =  \frac{ \sqrt{3}.3 \sqrt{3} }{2}

                               = 9/2
                               = 4.5 cm

yvsravan: 9/2 correct answer
