let the triangle be ABC
right angled at B
AC^2=BC^2+AB^2
AC^2=16^2+12^2
AC^2=256+144
AC=√400
AC=20

hope it helped u.......

We have,

Base = AB = 16 cm

Perpendicular = BC = 12 cm

Hypotenuse = AC = ?

NOW,

BY Using Pythagoras theorem we can find AC

SO,

(AB)² + (BC)² = (AC)²

=> 16² + 12² = (AC)²

=> 256 + 144 = (AC)²

=> 400 = (AC)²

=> 20² = (AC)²

=> AC = 20 cm

Hence,

The length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle = 20 cm
