Answer:

a) let base = x

perpendicular = 8cm

hypotenuse = 10cm

by Pythagoras theorem :

(H)²=(B)²+(P)²

(B)²=(H)²-(P)²

(B)²=(10)²-(8)²

(B)²=100-64

(B)²=36

(B)=√36

(B)=6cm

b) base = 8cm

perpendicular = 15cm

let hypotenuse = x

by Pythagoras theorem :

(H)²=(B)²+(P)²

(H)²=(8)²+(15)²

(H)²=64+225

(H)²=289

(H)=√289

(H)=17cm

i). In ABC

i). We know that the side opposite to the right angle is called the hypotenuse.

AC² = AB² + BC². [By Pythagoras theorem]

{\bold\blue{⇒}} 10² = 8² + x²

{\bold\blue{⇒}}100 = 64 + x²

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x² = 100 - 64

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x² = 36

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x = √36

{\bold\pink{⇒}} x = 6cm

ii). In ∆PQR,

{\bold\blue{⇒}} By Pythagoras theorem,

{\bold\blue{⇒}}PR² = PQ² + QR²

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x² = 15² + 8²

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x² = 225 + 64

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x² = 289

{\bold\blue{⇒}}x = √289

{\bold\pink{⇒}}x = 17cm

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

{\bold\blue{Additional \: Information}}

• A right angle triangle has one of its angle equals to 90°

• The side opposite to the right angle is called the hypotenuse.

The other two sides that contain right angle are called the base and perpendicular of the right angled triangle.

FORMULA:-

(Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Perpendicular)²

\bold{\red{\boxed{{{Remark}}}}}

The two sides of a right triangle other than the hypotenuse are called its legs.
