Given - Mass of sodium bicarbonate - 336 gram

Find - Mass of carbon dioxide evolved.

Solution - Decomposition reaction of sodium bicarbonate is - 2NaHCO3 --> Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2. In the reaction, NaHCO3 is sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium bicarbonate, Na2CO3 is sodium carbonate, H2O is water and CO2 is carbon dioxide.

Number of moles of sodium bicarbonate - 336/84 - 4.

2 moles of sodium bicarbonate release 1 mole of carbon dioxide.

4 moles of sodium bicarbonate will release - (1*4)/2

Number of moles of carbon dioxide - 2.

Mass of carbon dioxide - 2*44 - 88 gram.

Hence, the mass of carbon dioxide is 88 gram.
