Given:

60, 58, 56, 54, 52...

To find:

The maximum sum of the given series

Solution:

a = 60

d = -2

In order to find the maximum value of the sum, no negative term should be there as it will reduce the value.

a + (n-1)d > 0

60 -2n +2 > 0

n < 31

n = 30 (31st term is 0)

Sum of first 30 terms = n [2a + (n-1)d]/2

                                   = 30 [120 - 58] / 2

                                   = 930

Hence, the maximum value of the sum of the AP is 930.
