Median = 142 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given with following data for distribution of heights in cm below;

      Heights (in cm)        No. of students (f)      Cumulative Frequency (cf)

              140                                  3                                       3

              142                                  5                                       8

              150                                 6                                      14

                                               Total = 14

Now, for finding median firstly we will find;

                                    \frac{N}{2}  , where N = \sum f

So,  \frac{N}{2} =  \frac{14}{2} = 7

Now, in the table we will look for the cumulative frequency (cf) value which is just greater than or equal to 7.

After observing we find that the cf value which is just greater than or equal to 7 is 8.

Now, the corresponding height with respect to value cf = 8 is 142 cm.

This mean that the median of the data is 142 cm.
